Energy Savings
When people think about home upgrades, they imagine new kitchens and bathrooms. Yet some of the most valuable improvements are hidden above ceilings and inside walls. Good insulation and air sealing quietly lower your bills and make every room more comfortable.
Why air sealing comes first
Heated air escapes through countless small gaps around pipes, wires, recessed lights and attic hatches. Sealing these leaks stops warm air from rushing out and cold air from sneaking in, and it makes insulation work far better.
Insulation slows heat down. Air sealing stops it from leaving at all.
Check the attic
The attic is usually the best place to start. Look at the depth and condition of the insulation, and make sure vents are clear so air can move freely and moisture can escape. Proper ventilation also helps prevent ice dams.
Look at walls, basements and rim joists
- Insulate and seal the rim joist area in the basement, a common source of drafts.
- Consider wall insulation when siding or interior finishes are being replaced.
- Seal around basement windows and penetrations.
Do not forget windows and doors
Modern insulated windows and well-sealed doors reduce drafts, quiet outside noise and make rooms more even in temperature.
Add clean energy
Once your home holds heat well, solar can offset what you do use. A well-sealed, well-insulated house needs a smaller system for the same comfort.
We would be glad to help you decide which of these upgrades will matter most in your home.
